Drug/Alcohol Testing in Massachusetts
Before a drug/alcohol testing program can be implemented, there are some questions that will be asked. The goal would be to determine how certain factors will have an effect on the testing program.
These questions include but are not limited to:
- What legal rights do the people receiving the test have?
- What steps will be taken to make sure that the drug tests are accurate?
- What substances of abuse will be tested for?
- When will the drug and alcohol tests be given?
- Who is going to receive the testing?
- Who will conduct the testing?
- Who will pay for the cost of the drug testing?
Often, the testing will be conducted by trained professionals. However, it is also possible for anyone who do this, including teachers in schools, parents at home, and other figures in authority.
In the workplace, a trained collector will be invited to collect specimen. Alternatively, the employees might be asked to visit a certified and pre-selected lab. The chain of custody for the specimen should be continuous from the moment it is received to when it is disposed. This ensures that the drug/alcohol testing process is accurate while also reducing the margin for error.
