If you are planning to enroll in outpatient drug treatment programs, it is important that you learn as much as you can about these programs. As you might already be aware, these programs will provide you with treatment and rehabilitation services on an outpatient basis. This means that you will only be required to visit the recovery facility a few times every week for a given period of time.
As a result, you can spend the rest of your time doing what you would like to do - keeping up with your social life, going to work, attending school, taking care of your daily responsibilities and obligations, and practicing the lessons you learned at the recovery center.
One of the primary advantages of outpatient drug treatment programs is that they can be adjusted easily to meet your needs and requirements. For this reason, it is possible to find a number of specialized types of treatment offered on an outpatient basis. They include but are not limited to:
This model involves a combination of outpatient and inpatient drug treatment programs. You will be required to live in supervised housing centers that are separate from but connected to the treatment center. Technically, however, you will not be staying at the actual hospital or clinic.
An intensive outpatient program - or an IOP - will provide you with highly intensive treatment and rehabilitation services. You will typically be required to spend a minimum of 9 hours getting treated for your substance abuse problem every week. The center may also ask that you visit 3 to 5 days every week. This type of care is ideal if you have suffered a relapse, you have a severe substance use disorder, have just come out of an inpatient recovery facility, are struggling with co-occurring medical and mental health disorders, or you just need intensive care.
Also known as partial hospitalization programs - or PHPs - day treatment programs are ideal if you have severe psychological issues or medical issues but you do not require full hospitalization. You will typically meet at the treatment facility 3 to 5 days every week for a number of hours - a minimum of 4 hours. This will allow you to get help for these issues while also being able to go home or to another living facility at night.
A regular outpatient program will not provide intensive care. As such, you will typically get to visit the recovery facility a few times each week - for a few of hours every time. This will allow you to work on overcoming your substance use disorder as well as manage any co-occurring medical and mental health disorders that you have been diagnosed with. However, this form of care will not be as intensive as you can expect from the other kinds of outpatient programs.
With so many outpatient drug treatment programs available today - as well as different modalities of the same form of care - it should be possible for you to find a center that can help you attain a lifestyle of recovery, health, and wellness.
